Some of us work really hard renovating or decorating a room to make it our own. We spend hours scraping, painting, trimming, rearranging furniture, and even hanging decor on the walls. But sometimes this isn’t enough. Is your room missing something? Is there something just not right about your space? You room may call for a subtle accent to bring everything together. Here are some ideas for using an accent table to do this.
Accent tables come in so many sizes and shapes, there’s bound to be one that fits your room. A small table in particular will give the illusion of a larger room, which is often a key factor in improving the look and feel of a room. Choose one and place it in different areas around your room. Make sure to get a friend’s opinion as well.
Another thing to consider is your existing furniture. If you have many straight lines in your room, i.e. a rectangular coffee table or futon, you might want to look at using a round small table. Choosing a round table instead of a square or rectangle one will add a different look to a room and is more modern. Using furniture with the same shape throughout a room is dull…dare to be different!
Perhaps your room is a combination of fabric and carpet and soft textures. It makes sense that using glass tables will not be conducive to the style of the room. Now would be the time to add a wood small table. Wood is warm, natural, and just adds a special touch to a room. It isn’t particularly ultra-modern, although some wood and fibers are more so than others, such as bamboo or teak. Wood also has the added benefit of matching pretty much everything.
Some people have a home that is just so unique and whimsical that antiques look fantastic throughout. If this describes your home, then look into an antique small table as an accent. The obvious place to find these would be a local antique store, but they can also be found at estate sales and garage or yard sales locally. This type of table has another benefit of usually being very strong and sturdy, as it has already withstood the test of time.
Whatever you choose, using a small table to accent a room is a sure way to add that special something to your space!
